Worth the trip across the bay: A Fire Island summer fun guide
Beach volleyball at its best happens in Cherry Grove every summer and has been since 2011, thanks to LezVolley. This predominantly lesbian women’s tournament is one of the most popular LBGTQ+ and non-binary annual sporting events in the region. Competition is fierce, as is good sportsmanship. Demand to play is so high that year the LezVolley team enrollment period closed within the first 24 hours, but spectators are welcome on the beach to catch all the action.

On Aug. 13, more than 1,000 people took to the beach on Cherry Grove for the annual LezVolley event. The tournament featured 25 teams with participants from all over the East Coast. New friendships were formed on the ferry ride over, while passengers chattered in excitement for the day’s events.

Forged in Friendship: LezVolley Turns 10
The 10th anniversary LezVolley Annual Volleyball Tournament held in 8/14, was an enormous success. With five courts and nets set up along the beach, the event was able to accommodate 220 players in the rotation of 25 teams. Attended by well over 1,000 spectators cheering them on, every team gave it their all, as the wins whittled down the numbers toward the climactic semifinals and finals matches.
